See the Tiji Festival Without the Trek – 15-Day Upper Mustang Overland Tour by 4WD

Not everyone can – or wants to – trek 5–7 hours a day for two weeks. The Tiji Festival 4WD Overland Tour reaches all the same destinations by private jeep: Lo Manthang, Charang, Luri Cave Monastery, and Muktinath. You witness all three days of the Tiji Festival in the courtyard of Lo Manthang's royal palace. The difference is you get there in a Land Cruiser rather than on foot, which means less fatigue, more flexibility, and the same dramatic canyon scenery viewed from a vehicle window between stops.

The overland route from Pokhara to Lo Manthang follows the Mustang Highway, a 4WD-only track that climbs through progressively more arid terrain north of Kagbeni. The road is rough in stretches, particularly between Kagbeni and Tsarang, but riding through Mustang's eroded badlands is an experience in itself – red cliffs rising several hundred meters on both sides, river crossings, and the occasional herd of yaks in the road. This isn't a coach tour through managed scenery. It's remote Nepal, just reached by vehicle instead of by foot.

This tour is particularly well-suited to families traveling with children and multi-generational groups where some members cannot trek but all want the cultural experience of Lo Manthang and the Tiji Festival. The 15-day itinerary includes a Kathmandu heritage tour, a stop at Luri Cave Monastery (a short hike off the main jeep track), three full days at the festival, and the return via Muktinath.
