Tiji Festival Motorbike Tour – Ride Nepal's Most Remote Road to the Sacred Kingdom
The road from Kagbeni to Lo Manthang is one of the most extraordinary motorcycle routes in Asia. It follows the Kali Gandaki river valley north through a landscape that shifts from lush gorge to high-altitude desert within 50 kilometers. Cliffs rise hundreds of meters on both sides. The track climbs through ancient villages where the houses are stacked on each other like cells in a cliff face. Wind is a constant presence – the Mustang valley channels some of the strongest winds in the Himalayas. And at 3,840 meters, you arrive at Lo Manthang, a medieval walled city that has been inhabited for more than 600 years.
The Tiji Festival Motorbike Tour follows the same route as the 4WD overland tour but on motorcycles, which means you feel the landscape differently. Suspension bridges over gorges. The smell of dust and juniper. Stopping in a Tibetan-style village to let a yak herd cross. There is no glass between you and Mustang.
The tour is designed for riders who are comfortable on technical, unpaved terrain at altitude. The Mustang Highway is passable by standard adventure motorcycles (we use Royal Enfield Himalayan or equivalent) but requires confidence on loose gravel, river crossings, and steep switchbacks. This is not a paved-road touring trip.
At Lo Manthang, the motorcycles are parked and you spend three days watching the Tiji Festival on foot – the same masked dances, the same sacred rituals, the same cultural depth as any other tour format.
Motorbike tour pricing is calculated per person based on group size and motorcycle rental type. We provide motorcycles or can arrange permits for riders bringing their own bikes to Nepal. Contact us for a detailed quote.
